Night Session:003 – Aftershots
Just a quick post to follow up the last session. Here’s a sketch of out two deadly ninjas from Atsushi Natsumeda:
Now – I apologize that I don’t have ‘finished’ sketches from this one. After all the great work they did posing! My excuse is that I was experimenting with making little art movies:) Check out these time-lapse videos I did with GorillaCam on my iphone.
Thursday Jan 06th Session: Wilson Hoi-Yant Li and Stephanie Wong
Night Session:002 – Aftershots
Update: Just got this sketch from Jeevan:
Some of the work is coming in from our Night Session with Lakita. We had another great turn-out. Thanks to everyone who came to support us and keep the painting session growing! Expect more updates as we get new art from the evening…
Jianli Wu – doing a great job with photoshop. Some excellent lighting!
Atsushi Natsumeda – really capturing the detail in this one!
Marc Taro Holmes (me!) – another one of my splashy watercolors
Next time I think I’ll do digital – seeing Jianli and others reminded me how fun it is
Aftershots: Workshop Photos
A few more of Lakita
I’m really excited about our next session. I’ve always wanted to paint a Tribal dancer. Lakita has some excellent costumes and an exotic look about her. This is going to be a great painting session! (You know I’m always going to say that) – but this one will be a highlight of my month for sure!
Here’s a few more shots of Lakita:
Thursday Nov 25th Session: Lakita Renée Lynes
Snaps
Aftershots: Karine Fournier – Zombie Bride
Hey everyone! Thanks to everybody who came out for our first painting session. Glad you guys could all make it – hope to see you back next month.
I had great time painting last night! Karine came up with a very challenging white on white zombie bride costume using a vintage wedding dress and some ghoulish makeup.
I really enjoyed the chance to spend 4 hours on the pose. Much more fun than the usual gesture session. Not that I’m advising staying away from short pose sessions
I’m always doing as much sketching as I can. BUT – it was great to get in front of an excellent model and do a couple paintings. You train different drawing muscles when you do a sustained drawing.
Enough talk – here’s some work from last night!
I just got in this excellent digital painting from Rob Barrett. Rob’s currently a concept artist for THQ here in Montreal. He’s been through the super-elite classical training at the Concept Art Atelier in San Francisco, but is a really down to earth guy and great painter. You’ll find some of his fine art work up here: [bobjimart] or on his [CGHub profile].
Also just in: pics from film industry concept artist and matte painter Dahmindra Jeevan. For more of his work, check out his profile on [Behance].
So – If you’ve got shots from the night, or scans of your stuff – send ‘em over and we’ll share them with everyone!

(oh yes, and here’s my watercolor/gouaches of Karine in her challenging-to-paint Zombie Bride costume):
You are the Art! (Volunteers Wanted!)
If you’re exhibitionist (and fit enough to hold the pose ) or if you’re a cosplay creative type – We’d love to have you volunteer to model, or to make/lend us a costume! You’ll get some great art in return and have a fun time. Let us know if you have crazy props or accessories lying around. We’re interested in talking to you!
